When it’s time to replace or upgrade your furniture, it’s exciting to shop for something a little more stylish.
But if you’re like me, you’re hoping that whatever furniture you choose will last you for a while. Furniture can be a big investment, and it’s nice to know that your choices will make you happy (and impress your guests!) for years to come.
Through our family-owned furniture store, my mom, brother, team and I have learned how to help our customers find trendy furniture without having to sacrifice long-lasting appeal and quality.
Read my three tips for choosing trendy and long-lasting furniture below!
Choose customizable options
If you’re looking for stylish furniture for your home, I suggest choosing customizable options whenever possible.
Why? I think it’s important to make sure trendy furniture is also comfortable and functional for your home and that you’ll like the colour and patterns for a long time.
A perfect example is our Trendy Chaise Sectional. For this sofa, you have the option to customize the size, colour, firmness, accent pillows, and chaise side. This is ideal for a furniture buyer who likes the modern fabric look, but also wants to make sure it suits their preferences.
I like the Trendy so much that I recently bought it for my own home in a grey fabric (a neutral colour that I know will look great in my living room for a long time). It was the first time I’ve changed my couch in 11 years. Since the Trendy has a solid wood frame and is built in Canada, I know it will last a long time too.
Another great example is the Lisa sofa. The tufted white sofa is very trendy right now.
The benefit of buying this exclusive piece at Fair Deal is that you can choose from 20 colour options as well as a variety of cushion patterns. So, if you’re unsure about choosing a white sofa, you have options!
A bonus is that this sofa is made locally right here in Calgary, meaning quicker delivery and the opportunity to support local manufacturers.
Consider the materials and craftsmanship
The Metro bedroom collection is made with solid pine and quality craftsmanship, as seen in the full extension drawers, dovetail joints, and unique angled legs. See the collection here.
Another tip I always give to my customers is to consider the materials and craftsmanship of the trendy item that they like.
Many of the furniture lines we carry at Fair Deal are made with high quality materials and excellent craftsmanship.
A great example is the Metro bedroom collection by Mako Furniture in Canada. It’s made of solid pine and comes is 12 custom stains. What I love is the unique angled legs, the low bed frame, the storage bed option, and the snag-free drawers. The design is thoughtful and intuitive – something to keep in mind when shopping for trendy furniture.
Another great example is the high-profile and linen headboard in the Canning platform bed by Primo International. This headboard style is very trendy but is also made with quality in mind.
A closer look shows clean stitching, beautiful button tufting, and thick padding, all of which adds to the pretty style and high quality of this piece.
What I love about the linen is the crisp, modern look. But my favourite part is that you don’t need a box spring with this platform bed!
Add and change accents whenever you please
Accents are often left off the priority list when furnishing a room, yet they are the key finishing touches that can tie a room together.
My favourite accents are varieties of greenery. At Fair Deal, we have many faux trees, succulents, and plant arrangements to help customers spruce up their spaces.
Another important piece is lighting, as it can make a huge difference in the ambiance of a room.
I believe in changing accents not when trends change, but whenever you feel it might be time to freshen up your space. I like having multiple accents to change up the look on seasonal basis, which adds a little joy to my home and life. 😊
